Story
This March we are embarking on a once in a life time adventure to trek the Kokoda Trail alongside 20 other amazing women. This trek will be even more special, as one of our patients that we cared for from Papua New Guinea will also be trekking alongside us.
Being MHF Brain Cancer Nurses, we have witnessed the utter devastation this diseases causes for patients and their families. From diagnosis, through treatment, follow up and end of life care, the road for patients and their loved ones is unforgiving. However, during the most heartbreaking moments of their lives, we are incredibly lucky to witness the true strength of humankind. These patients and their families show up for one another, they are resilient, courageous and have an inner fighting spirit like you’ve never seen before.
It’s our honour to be doing this trek for MHF. The money raised from this trek will go directly toward supporting our role in helping patients and their families. These patients are the inspiration for us all to battle through the conditions, put one foot in front of the other and make it to the end.

The Mark Hughes Foundation (MHF) is a charity formed in Newcastle by Mark and Kirralee Hughes following Mark’s diagnosis with Brain Cancer in 2013. The Mark Hughes Foundation’s mission is to raise much needed funds for research, to create awareness and support brain cancer patients and their families.
